Pre-IB French I
Year Course: Grade 9
Students will learn structures and vocabulary, while developing proficiency in the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This is accomplished by creating a contemporary French-speaking cultural context, so as to make language-learning a more meaningful activity. Class work emphasizes listening and speaking skills, and homework emphasizes reading and writing.
Pre-IB French II
Year Course: Grade 10
During the course, the students continue to develop and appropriate the language. They come to realize that the meanings of various linguistic elements can be found by observation and analysis and can be rebuilt like a puzzle. The student's active behavior is encouraged through the development of oral expression during class. Through various materials (texts, tapes, and videos) students are also introduced to French life and culture.
IB French III
Year Course: Grade 11
The course begins to focus on IB requirements. Students are required to read selections from several texts from different sources (newspapers, magazines, websites, novels, short stories), understand the texts globally and in detail, and study their vocabulary and the grammatical structures in order to be prepared for the IB paper 1. Students improve their writing skills and learn to write essays in the IB format. They are exposed to an extensive selection of possible essay topics and therefore get ample practice for the paper 2. For oral skills, students are expected to work everyday in the form of discussions, presentations, debates, and conversations which will lead to the evaluation required for the internal assessment and to a recorded interactive presentation sent to the IBO.
