STARS
Freshmen & Sophomores and Parents:
Freshmen and Sophomores can get connected to other students in the IB program through
the STARS mentoring program. This is a great way to foster relationships amongst our
students and give them someone to count on. Please read all about it below. Students
should take advantage of being involved in STARS. Many juniors and seniors have signed
up to be mentors and are anxiously waiting to have a "little brother or little sister",
and they are excited for the opportunity to work with underclassmen.
Get Connected in the HHS IB Program by becoming a part of STARS!
What: STARS is a peer mentoring program to help underclass students connect with
other students to develop relationships, in addition to getting tips and strategies
about how to be successful in IB.
Goal: Research indicates that students who are more connected to their high school
(peers, teachers, activities), are more successful and report higher rates of satisfaction.
Upperclassmen will be allocated to be mentors. For the most part, juniors will mentor
freshmen and seniors will mentor sophomores.
What Students will get from STARS Mentors:
Tips and Strategies to Develop Skills to be more Successful
Help with the Transition to high school
Help Develop Academic Goals
Help Develop Positive Attitudes
Help Understand Future Benefits
Help students Access Resources
Help students CONNECT!
Students will meet during JA, before school, after school, and/or during lunch one time per week.
If you are interested in being part of the first IB mentoring program at HHS, then fill out the attached flyer, and return only the bottom portion to the IB office or Mrs. Dicus’s box.
Sincerely,
Athena Dicus, M.Ed.
