Mission Statement:
The HHS Ambassadors are dedicated to the preservation of the history and traditions of Hillsborough High School. We hope to preserve the past for the betterment of the future.
About the Club:
Did you know that Hillsborough’s bell tower was dedicated in 1949 to the students who died in World War II ? Or that Hillsborough started out as a mere room over a livery stable in 1885 ?
Although 2000 students attend Hillsborough today, only a few are aware the history behind the magnificent building that, to them, is only a collection of classrooms.
As many of its distinguished alumni will tell you however, Hillsborough High School is much more than just another high school: it is an architectural gem, built in the Gothic Revival style, and steeped in the history of the Seminole Heights area.
Hillsborough High School is a symbol of human achievement; its graduates were the leaders of the past (Tampa Mayors Dick Greco and William F. Poe are Hillsborough alumni) and it continues to educate the leaders of the future after over 200 years of being in existence.
The HHS Ambassadors hope to protect Hillsborough’s rich traditions and instill a sense of school and community pride through their work.
The Ambassadors conduct research into the traditions of the Big Red and put together informational brochures and tours for incoming freshmen, alumni, and the general public. In addition, they participate in and initiate school beautification efforts. Currently, the Ambassadors are working on putting Hillsborough High School on the National Register of Historic Places.
