AP Testing Information 2013
Dear Parents,
AP testing will begin on Monday, May 6th. I have attached a newsletter
and other information for your reference.
The May 2013 IB AP Exam Calendar is for IB seniors only,
while the May 2013 AP Exam Calendar is for underclassmen.
Students received the letter
outlining expectations. They must report to school by 7:30am for morning exams and by 11:30am for afternoon exams. There are
no makeup exams
if students miss their AP exam. Students who miss an exam must pay a fee for
missing each exam, given the district pays $89 per exam for students to test.
New this year...students will receive scores online and will not get a paper report
in the mail. An instruction sheet for accessing scores is attached
here.
Any student taking an AP Exam can have school business to be out of school for the remainder of
the day, although transportation must be provided. Parents must sign the attached
permission form
and turn it in ASAP in order for your child to have school business.
It is not too late to volunteer to be an AP Proctor-- 8th grade parents are welcome too!
We need your help! You can assist with monitoring students during AP exams and see what
exams will be like. We definitely need assistance during the AP US History and the AP English
Language exams as we have over 230 students testing in the gym during both of these sessions.
The dates and times are on the AP Calendar and on the proctor website.
Just go to www.sdhc.k12.fl.us/approctor to sign up.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated!
Sincerely,
Athena Dicus, M.Ed.

Parents and Students
AP Exam testing starts May 6th, and it is approaching quickly. Please review the attached newsletter
IB Newsletter April 2013.
Students will soon bring home more information, including test dates and expectations. Given we are
administering over 1,800 exams, we are in great need of volunteers to assist with proctoring exams.
If you are interested, see the instructions in the link below. Thank you, and have a great day!
Sincerely,
Athena Dicus, M.Ed.

Parents can Volunteer to be an AP Proctor
We need your help!
We will be administering over 1,800 AP exams this year to IB and traditional
students. Sometimes it is difficult to allocate enough teachers to proctor each exam.
Parents can assist with monitoring students
during one or more exams. If you are interested, follow the instructions below:
1. Go to www.sdhc.k12.fl.us/approctor
to sign up online. Click on Proctor Information to read about rules and expectations.
2. Family Rule: Parents cannot proctor an exam their child or an immediate
household member is scheduled to take (anywhere in the district or nation).
3. SERVE Application: The website will direct you to fill out a SERVE
Volunteer application. In order to proctor, or volunteer at a school, a SERVE
application must be on file. This can be submitted to the main office or IB office.
4. Review the HHS Test Calendar: Signing up to proctor a test is a big
commitment. Make sure you are certain about proctoring prior to signing up. The
AP planning process is cumbersome, and changes to proctors schedule is challenging.
8th grade parents are welcome to proctor!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

Attention SENIORS!
All complete CAS paperwork must be submitted no later than April 15th (although a few homeroom teachers want

Congratulations to Alec Tyler!
Hello All,
On Saturday, IB freshman Alec Tyler represented Hillsborough High School
in the 2012 Central Florida History Bee and was a member of a two person team (one representing Freedom High
and Alec representing Hillsborough) in the 2012 Central Florida History Bowl.
Alec obtained the most points in the Bee and has qualified to go to the National Competition in Arlington Virginia.
Last year, in 8th grade, Alec was a finalist for the History Channel's National History Bee.
Alec was also a part of the winning JV History Bowl team. They had more points than any JV and Varsity teams.
Another amazing point is that they only had 2 members, while the other teams had 4 members. They also qualified
for the national competition!
Alec deserves a ton of credit for a job well done!!! It was nice seeing Alec, representing Hillsborough,
beating individuals and teams from Plant, Berkeley, Riverview and Shorecrest Prep to name a few schools!
Sincerely,
Mike Mikulec

Parents and Students,
I hope you are all enjoying your summer! I am
looking forward to seeing you all again soon.
Given there was a delay by the school to set up
the master schedule in the computer system, it put
a major delay in allowing me to begin working on IB
schedules. That being said, we worked hard since
last Monday to get things done so you have the
opportunity to review your preliminary schedule for
any errors or changes. I am going to hold schedule
sessions to give you the opportunity to meet with me
for any needed changes. Priority is given to errors
in the schedule, such as missing a class or having the
wrong class on the schedule. It is simply not possible
to honor the abundance of teacher requests that are
submitted, nor does the scheduling typically allow for
it. Seniors and sophomores should have received schedules
in the mail, while junior schedules required more time and
were mailed home today (8/2). Schedule changes are
first-come first-serve and sessions will be held at HHS.
Even though not all changes or requests may be possible,
I will try my best to ensure everyone has the right classes
on the first day of school. The schedule for the sessions
is below. Any requests submitted via email will not be
reviewed until after the school sessions. Please do not
leave phone requests. If you are out of town, or if you
are not able to come to the school, you must submit concerns
or requests via email.
Seniors:Monday, August 6th from 8:00am to 11:00am
Juniors:Monday, August 6th from 1:00pm-3:00pm
Sophomores:Tuesday, August 7th from 8:00am-11:00am
We will still be working to level classes and will
make minor changes to the overall schedule. Students
will receive the finalized schedules on the first day
of school. Thank you for your understanding and support!
Sincerely,
