Hello all,
I would like to congratulate all our students who participated in the American Mathematics Competitions in February. 57 students took the test on February 3, and 8 students took the second version on February 25.

In particular, I'd like to congratulate Benny Lin (school winner) and Mauricio Rivera-Condori. Both students scored in the top 5% of all students worldwide to take the AMC-12, and qualified to take the American Invitational Math Exam this month. Their scores, combined with the score of Jacob Leuthold, resulted in Hillsborough earning the School Merit Roll award (for a total team score of 300 or above). I'd also like to congratulate Andrew Kim, our school winner for the AMC-10.

We anticipate that once we receive the official results of the AMC-B on February 25, we will have at least one more AIME qualifier--Jacob Leuthold.

All AIME qualifiers take a 3 hour, 15 question exam in late March, for which the answer to each question is a number between 0 and 999. It is extremely challenging, and the median score is 5, meaning that half of all students get 5 or fewer questions correct.

Congratulations to these students!

I am so proud to announce that Ellie Rodriguez, editor of the Red & Black, is a finalist for Florida Student Journalist of the Year. Ellie is an impressive young leader and versatile journalist. She is well-respected by her peers like few editors who have come before.

She is Hillsborough's sixth finalist in eight years, joining Emily Matras (2008), Jose Perez (2010), Zack Peterson (2011), Rachel Mowat (2013) and Liz Tsourakis (2014).

FSPA will announce the winner in April.     Details:

Hello Parents,

This is Mr. Gast from Hillsborough High School and I am contacting you to share some exciting news. As you know, for the last several years I have organized student tours to Europe all of which have been enriching and enjoyable.   I am now adding a new phase of travel opportunities that will focus on adult travel.  The first tour that my wife and I are organizing is set for Africa, to launch in July of 2016.

She and I had the great fortune of traveling to Tanzania in 2013 and we came away from the tour completely awestruck by the beauty and a desire to return so we could see and learn more.

We are going to schedule an information meeting for late March or early April to be held at the Seminole Heights Library.

At the meeting we will go over costs, travel details and requirements so that you will have all the information you need to make a decision about being a part of this experience.

If you are interested in being kept on our information email list, please let us know.  We look forward to hearing from you.   In the meantime, 'like' us on facebook at See Africa 2016.  Take care.
