Hooray for the Baseball Team!
The Terriers baseball team took their first step towards states by beating Osceola 4-1 Wednesday. Senior Jared Jensen pitched a gem giving up only 3 hits in a complete game victory. The link below was the write up in the Tampa Bay Times. Regional semi-finals are Tuesday, 5/5, vs Mitchell High School at home. Good Luck and let’s pack the stands and cheer on our Terriers!

I'm so proud to share some great news about our journalism program from this past weekend's Florida Scholastic Press Association state convention.
Ellie Rodriguez, editor in chief of the Red & Black newspaper, is the new Florida Student Journalist of the Year. She is Hillsborough's sixth finalist in eight years (Emily Matras 2008, Jose Perez 2010, Zack Peterson 2011, Rachel Mowat 2013 , Liz Tsourakis 2014) but our first winner. This is the second consecutive SJOY from Hillsborough County -- last year's winner was from King High School.
Annie Aguiar was named co-winner of the Emerging Young Journalist award, given to the top freshman or sophomore in the state. Annie is news editor of the Red & Black.
Multiple students won "Best of the Best" awards for their work in a variety of categories. These were selected from a pool of more than 2,200 entries in 61 categories.
-- Gia Jadick, Computer-Drawn Illustration
-- Ellie Rodriguez, Humorous Commentary
-- Ellie Rodriguez and Maria Roberts, Serious Commentary
-- Kathy Xie, Newspaper Page Design
--  Kathy Xie, Maria Roberts and John Veliz, Infographic Design
-- Nadia Uthayakumar, Poetry
Several students also won first in the On the Spot contests at convention.
-- Daniel Dole-Muinos, Collaborative Commercial
-- Gaby Fernandez, Mixed Company
-- Kathy Xie, Digital Infographic
Lastly, both the Red & Black and Hilsborean were recognized as All-Florida publications. Red & Black is one of only six All-Florida newspapers in the state (and the only in Hillsborough County) while Hilsborean is one of 24 yearbooks to receive the honor, joined by the East Bay and Strawberry Crest books in Hillsborough County.
As always, thanks for your support of Hillsborough High School Journalism.

 2-15-15   See Africa 2016
Hello Parents,

This is Mr. Gast from Hillsborough High School and I am contacting you to share some exciting news. As you know, for the last several years I have organized student tours to Europe all of which have been enriching and enjoyable.   I am now adding a new phase of travel opportunities that will focus on adult travel.  The first tour that my wife and I are organizing is set for Africa, to launch in July of 2016.

She and I had the great fortune of traveling to Tanzania in 2013 and we came away from the tour completely awestruck by the beauty and a desire to return so we could see and learn more.

We are going to schedule an information meeting for late March or early April to be held at the Seminole Heights Library.

At the meeting we will go over costs, travel details and requirements so that you will have all the information you need to make a decision about being a part of this experience.

If you are interested in being kept on our information email list, please let us know.  We look forward to hearing from you.   In the meantime, 'like' us on facebook at See Africa 2016.  Take care.
